How We Care

Consultations with Residents

Sidmouth Nursing Home undertakes Quality Improvement Surveys on a regular basis. Residents are regularly consulted as to their personal preferences and have influence over the daily menu.

Care Plan Reviews

Care plans are reviewed on an ongoing basis and at least once a month. These are done in consultation with the resident and relatives who are given access to the plan at all times.

Complaints

If a resident or relative wishes to make a formal complaint, the complaint is taken seriously and dealt with in accordance with The Health and Social Care Act 2008.

Our Quality Team

At The Sidmouth Nursing Home, we believe that the quality of our team is the foundation of our success. Our dedicated and experienced team is carefully recruited and trained to provide the highest standard of care.

Led by six permanent staff nurses and supported by a bank nurse for absences, our team is composed of compassionate care assistants, senior care assistants, and nurse support staff. Our non-clinical staff, including a chef, domestic and maintenance staff, and a one-to-one activity supporter, ensure that our residents receive holistic care.

Our Quality Team

As with any successful organisation, the quality of the team is paramount. All staff, whatever their role are recruited under our ethos. They must demonstrate kindness, compassion and professionalism at all times.

Our Registered Manager, Mrs Sherin John, is testimony to this and we are truly fortunate to have her. Sherin qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 2007 and has dedicated herself throughout this time to the physical and emotional well being of our residents. She is also a qualified Nurse Mentor. Sherin has played a pivotal role in the success of our Home over the last 10 years and helped to establish it as a centre of excellence in care. Sherin heads up a team of talented Nurses. She is supported by our Deputy Manager Mr Vinu Chandran and our Clinical Lead, Mrs Anitha Kuttappan. Vinu and Anitha hold the RGN and Nurse Mentorship qualifications.

Family Ethos

We take pride in our family ethos and have received constant positive feedback from residents, families, and the wider community in Sidmouth. We maintain a low staff turnover rate, ensuring a continuity of care and a familiar team that provides a personal touch.

All of our staff receives ongoing training to promote good working practices and to encourage individual development. We are committed to equal opportunities and currently have staff undertaking NVQ qualifications up to level 5 in management and leadership, as well as level 3 coaching and mentoring.

The majority of our care staff are qualified to at least NVQ level 3 or equivalent, and we continue to invest in the development of our team to ensure that we can provide the best care possible.

What Our Families Say About Us

"Thank you all for taking good care of Jenny since last September.

When she left Wonford Hospital I was told she only had a few weeks to live, but due to your good care I was given an extra eight precious months with my lovely Jenny."

Brian Holland

"Your staff are all fabulous. The love, care, attention and respect given to my mother is simply outstanding. I truly could not wish for a better place for her to be. Your nurses, carers, kitchen staff, maintenance - they are all wonderful. It is such a happy environment."

"We cannot give enough praise for the compassionate and professional way that your team looked after her. In what must be getting on for 400 visits to my Aunt in that time I can never remember once having cause for concern."
